1. Globalization is often understood as a relatively new dynamic in international relations. Yet, Immanuel Wallerstein suggests that the processes leading to the development of a world economy began in the sixteenth century. Describe the ways in which the modern globalized world is an extension of these early dynamics and the impact of both the Great Divergence and the Great Convergence.

2. Immigration theory often describes the movement of people in diaspora – away from their homeland with the hope of eventual return. Does this model of people flow accurately describe the processes of immigration in a globalized world? Why or why not?
3. How has globalization affected religion? Provide some examples in your answer.

4. What are some of the similarities and differences between Immanuel Wallerstein’s World Systems Theory and Colonialism?

5. Globalized cities across the world often appear quite similar. Is homogenization a necessary bi-product of globalization? Is it beneficial? Why or why not?

6. Does globalization challenge traditional perceptions of sovereignty? If so, how? Provide examples.
